Taming Holiday Gift Wrap: Rule of Three

Let's talk about gift wrap!  Wrapping paper is one of the biggest clutter offenders in my clients' homes. It's EVERYWHERE. It multiplies in the guest room closet throughout the year. It gets torn mercilessly. It never seems to fit in the handy gift wrap container you specially purchased. How to stop the madness? Pick a theme.

Here's what I mean: pick a cohesive color scheme and stick to it. The goal is to whittle down your wrapping paper collection to just THREE rolls of wrapping paper. It may sound crazy, but I promise it works. You can have as many bows and ribbons and gift tags as you'd like, but stick to only three rolls of paper. My personal picks? A plain kraft paper rolla chalkboard paper roll, and one black & white striped roll. If you stick to these three, you can wrap for any occasion - kids or adults, Christmas or a wedding, formal or casual. You'll be amazed at how much simpler wrapping presents is if you follow this rule. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest about how to style these three types of paper so you'll never wrap a boring present or run out of variations on your theme. I'm currently loving cool twine, unique gift toppers like bells and mini clothespins, and wood and chalkboard tags to dress packages up.

If you're ready to take the plunge, use up all your old paper this Christmas. Or run out and get your three rolls and start your new simple gift wrap system now! If you have a ton of old paper, call up your favorite local non-profit and donate the whole lot of it - they always need wrapping paper this time of year. Win-win.
